In Germany, for those marking Valentine's Day (Valentinstag), the date is 14 February, with red roses and mixed bouquets associated with the occasion. Christmas (Weihnachten) has its place in the calendar on 24 and 25 December, with table arrangements, amaryllis and poinsettias associated with the occasion. Sunday of the Dead (Totensonntag) comes on the last Sunday before Advent, with flowers used to mark remembrance at graves. For a service at Sri-Kurinchikumaran-Tempel, ask whether the flowers should be there before the family arrives, and where in the church they are placed. Flowers for a service at Altstadtkirche are usually taken in beforehand; the parish office can say how early the church is able to receive them. For a service at Jubilate-Kirche, ask which entrance is used for flowers and how early a tribute should be there. Across Germany, a funeral wreath or arrangement may carry a Schleife, a printed ribbon naming the mourner; if you want a ribbon, specify the requested wording when discussing the tribute, including the names of those sending it. When discussing the flowers, chrysanthemums, white lilies and white roses are customary choices for funeral flowers; use the occasion and the family’s preferences to guide the choice of tribute, and check the selected product for the flowers it includes. For a gift that reflects the occasion, a Grabgesteck may be placed on a grave for Totensonntag and, in Catholic states, for Allerheiligen; for a tribute intended for a grave, ask the cemetery about the precise location and its arrangements for accepting flowers.
