Occasions and Sympathy Flowers in Erlangen

In Germany, the celebration of Valentine's Day (Valentinstag) falls on 14 February, with red roses and mixed bouquets associated with the occasion. Mother's Day (Muttertag) takes place on the second Sunday of May, with flowers among the gifts associated with the occasion. Christmas (Weihnachten) is observed on 24 and 25 December, with table arrangements, amaryllis and poinsettias associated with the occasion. For those marking Sunday of the Dead (Totensonntag), the date is the last Sunday before Advent, with flowers used to mark remembrance at graves. Across Germany, red roses can carry a romantic meaning; when choosing flowers for a friend, colleague or host, consider the message you want the gift to convey and use the personal card to make the occasion clear.

For a service at Altstädter Dreifaltigkeitskirche, ask which entrance is used for flowers and how early a tribute should be there. When a funeral service is held at Martin Luther Kirche, confirm with the parish where flowers should be delivered and by what time they need to arrive. If the service takes place at Neustädter Kirche, the tribute usually goes to the church rather than to the family’s home; confirm the time with whoever is arranging it. In the German cultural context, a funeral wreath or arrangement may carry a Schleife, a printed ribbon naming the mourner; if you want a ribbon, specify the requested wording when discussing the tribute, including the names of those sending it. When considering an arrangement, chrysanthemums, white lilies and white roses are customary choices for funeral flowers; use the occasion and the family’s preferences to guide the choice of tribute, and check the selected product for the flowers it includes. When considering an arrangement, a Grabgesteck may be placed on a grave for Totensonntag and, in Catholic states, for Allerheiligen; for a tribute intended for a grave, ask the cemetery about the precise location and its arrangements for accepting flowers.
