The date for Mother's Day (Muttertag) is the second Sunday of May, with flowers among the gifts associated with the occasion. For those marking Christmas (Weihnachten), the date is 24 and 25 December, with table arrangements, amaryllis and poinsettias associated with the occasion. The celebration of Sunday of the Dead (Totensonntag) falls on the last Sunday before Advent, with flowers used to mark remembrance at graves. Flowers for a service at Kreuzkirche are usually taken in beforehand; the parish office can say how early the church is able to receive them. For a service at Pfarrkirche St. Vitus, ask which entrance is used for flowers and how early a tribute should be there. In Germany, a funeral wreath or arrangement may carry a Schleife, a printed ribbon naming the mourner; if you want a ribbon, specify the requested wording when discussing the tribute, including the names of those sending it. Chrysanthemums, white lilies and white roses are customary choices for funeral flowers; use the occasion and the family’s preferences to guide the choice of tribute, and check the selected product for the flowers it includes. In practical terms, a Grabgesteck may be placed on a grave for Totensonntag and, in Catholic states, for Allerheiligen; for a tribute intended for a grave, ask the cemetery about the precise location and its arrangements for accepting flowers.
