Same Day Delivery
Select a city to see local florists & same-day delivery options
Arrangements are made with what's freshest, so if a flower isn't available on the day the florist substitutes one of equal or greater value in a matching style, and the bunch keeps the shape and colour you chose. That is worth knowing here in particular, because supply can be uneven. If the recipient isn't home when the delivery arrives, the florist will typically call them or arrange a redelivery, so a locked door usually costs a few hours and no more. You can also request a preferred time slot, though exact times cannot be guaranteed — deliveries follow each florist's routes and workload for the day.
Give the complete address: the P.O. Box and the city — "P.O. Box 1234, Dar es Salaam" is the shape it takes — plus a phone number for the recipient. There is no widespread postcode system to fall back on, which makes that phone number the single most useful thing on the order: florists use it to confirm availability and to pin down exactly where the flowers are going before they set out. Where the delivery goes to an apartment, add the door code at checkout rather than leaving the courier to find a way in.
Flowers lead, with over 100 arrangements to choose from, and gift baskets, plants, chocolates and cakes sit alongside them for the occasions a bunch alone does not cover. An anniversary you want to mark properly from another country is one of those: flowers and something to open together travel well as a pair. Bouquets here are usually hand-tied and wrapped in cellophane or paper, sold by the bunch, with banana leaf, palm frond, fern and dracaena leaves giving the greenery its weight and shape.
Roses, carnations, chrysanthemums and gypsophila are grown domestically, with cut-flower growing associated with Arusha, the Mount Meru area of Kilimanjaro and Iringa, and wholesale trade with Kariakoo Market in Dar es Salaam. Highland roses and carnations are said to be harvested year-round in a temperate microclimate, though domestic volumes run highest in the cooler, drier months from June to October; much of the premium stock goes to export, so local florist supply can tighten outside that window. The bunches themselves tend to be simple and colourful, with a tropical feel. Red roses are the usual romantic choice, while white flowers, especially lilies and white roses, are conventional for funerals, where a wreath, not a loose bouquet, is the customary form.
Valentine's Day, February 14 every year, is the peak day for red rose bouquets and romantic gifting. Mother's Day and Valentine's Day are the exception to the usual schedule — florists open for the big flower days, so your order can arrive even when the date falls on a Sunday. Order at least 48 hours ahead. Eid al-Fitr, the first day of Shawwal on the Islamic lunar calendar and shifting around eleven days earlier each year, and Eid al-Adha, the tenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, both bring flowers into homes and family visits, as does Christmas Day on December 25. Wedding season concentrates in the dry months, June to October: flowers are a standard gift at weddings and graduations, less so for casual everyday moments.
Someone mid-journey — at an airport, a railway station or a cruise terminal — is almost impossible to reach with a delivery, because there is no address that holds them long enough for a florist to arrive. Send to their hotel, office or home address instead, timed for after they arrive. Formal pieces want the same forward planning for a different reason: wreaths and funeral arrangements need 24–48 hours' notice, so the address and the order both want settling early, not on the morning itself.
You order online from wherever you are, and the arrangement is made and delivered locally, which means distance changes nothing about what turns up. Write a card message at checkout and it travels with the flowers, free and exactly as you typed it — no rewording, no house style laid over your own. It is the part of the order most senders spend longest on, and the part the recipient reads first. Write it as you would say it, and the florist prints it as it stands.
