More About Flowers Delivery in Sri Lanka

The day you pick at checkout

The date you choose is the date the florist works to, and the calendar shows only the days that are open to you. For a birthday falling mid-week, or an anniversary you have had in your diary since January, setting the date early is the calmer route through it. Arrangements are made with what's freshest, so if a flower isn't available the florist substitutes one of equal or greater value in a matching style. Set the date first, then pick the arrangement that suits it.

What a complete Sri Lankan address needs

Street and number first, then the town and the postcode: addresses appear to use a five-digit code, with Colombo 00700 as the pattern to follow. Include the recipient's local phone number as well — florists use it to confirm availability and the exact address before they set out, and it is the detail most often left blank. Apartment buildings frequently need a door code, so add it at checkout, where it takes one line and costs nothing. Give all three and the florist has what is needed to reach the right door.

Which gifts go alongside the flowers

Bouquets tend to be hand-tied and wrapped in cellophane with ribbon, and the greenery is drawn from what grows close by — areca palm leaf, banana leaf, croton, dracaena and fern. Beside the flowers you can send gift baskets, plants, chocolates and cakes, over 200 gifts altogether. Not every order answers a date in the calendar: the morning after a first date, a small bouquet is the gesture that says last night meant something, and it lands before you have found the words. Add a cake to the order when the day carries two reasons.

Hill-country roses, temple flowers and the monsoon months

Roses, carnations, orchids, anthurium, chrysanthemum and gerbera are cut in the country itself — in the hill country around Nuwara Eliya and Kandy, and in the growing belt at Padukka, Nittambuwa and across the Gampaha District. Manning Market in Colombo is where much of that stock changes hands. The tropical and hill-country climates appear to allow cutting year-round, though the two monsoon periods, roughly May-September and October-January, can unsettle quality and transport. Flowers, and lotus and jasmine above all, are chiefly offered at temples and shrines instead of passing casually between people; as a courtesy, white flowers are usually left out of a gift to the living.

Temple offerings, New Year and Valentine's roses

Valentine's Day on 14 February and Mother's Day on the second Sunday of May are the exception to the usual schedule — florists open for the big flower days, so your order can arrive even when the date falls on a Sunday. Order at least 48 hours ahead for either one. The Sinhala and Tamil New Year, on 13-14 April, has houses decorated with fresh flowers as part of the rituals, and Deepavali, set by the Tamil lunar calendar and usually falling in October or November, brings garlands into homes and temples. Vesak Poya, the full moon day of the Sinhala month of Vesak in May, is a temple date above all, marked with mass offerings for the Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death.

When the recipient is out, or on the move

If the recipient isn't home, the florist will usually call them or arrange a redelivery, so a closed door seldom ends the order. Someone mid-journey is the harder case: at an airport, a railway station or a cruise terminal they are almost impossible to reach with a delivery, so send to their hotel, office or home address instead, timed for after they arrive. Wreaths and formal funeral pieces need 24-48 hours' notice. The large standing wreaths shown outside a funeral house are built to order, and white chrysanthemums and lilies tend to be the customary flowers for them.

How the order works from where you are

Sending from another country changes nothing at your end: you order online, and the arrangement is made and delivered locally. The people whose occasions will not wait for your next visit are the ones who open the door to the flowers; the ordering happens where you are, at whatever hour of your evening suits. Name the street in Sri Lanka it is going to, choose the flowers, and the florist takes it from there.

Customer Questions

Flowers Delivery to Sri Lanka — FAQs

Can I get same-day flower delivery in Sri Lanka?

Yes — order before 18:00 local time and your flowers can be delivered the same day. Orders placed after the cutoff are delivered on the next available day you choose at checkout.

Can flowers be delivered to a hospital?

Acceptance depends on the hospital and ward — check before ordering; otherwise delivery goes to reception. Use the hospital's own city and full address, with the patient's full name and, where possible, the ward or room.

Can you deliver to a hotel guest?

Yes. Include the guest's full name and, if you can, their arrival date or booking reference, so reception can match the delivery to the right guest.

Can I send flowers to an office?

Yes — include the company name and, if you know it, the floor or department, and the delivery goes to reception. Pick a day the recipient is in, so it arrives within office hours.

Can flowers go to a care residence?

Yes. Include the resident's full name and, where possible, the floor or unit. It is worth checking the residence accepts flower deliveries; reception will usually pass them on.

Can I ask for a particular time of day?

You can request a preferred time slot, but exact times cannot be guaranteed — deliveries follow the local florist's routes and workload for the day.
