Flowers — Netherlands

Half a continent away, and the bouquet is still made up locally the same afternoon: order before 14:00 local time and it can be in their hands today. It's their birthday and you can't be there — the flowers arrive on the day, with your words on the card, printed free and exactly as you typed them. Sending flowers to the Netherlands takes minutes from wherever you happen to be, and you pay in the currency you hold, because the order is placed and settled online, not handed over at the other end.

Choose the bouquet, write the card, and a local florist puts it together for the day it is due.

More About Flowers Delivery in Netherlands

Same-day orders and the Dutch delivery week

Deliveries run Monday to Saturday. What is in the shop that morning is what goes into the arrangement, so if a particular flower isn't in, the florist swaps it for one of equal or greater value that keeps the same look. The shape, the scale and the colour you chose survive the swap; the stem list is the part that moves. Knowing that before you order is what keeps a substitution from being a surprise: you are choosing a look and a size, and the florist is choosing the stems that are freshest that morning to build it.

What a complete Dutch address needs

Two details do more work than the rest. Include the recipient's local phone number — florists use it to confirm availability and the exact address, and it is what rescues an order with a missing house letter. And if it is an apartment, add the door code at checkout: apartment deliveries often need one, and a courier standing at a locked street door has no way to ask for it. Street, number, postcode, phone, door code. That is the whole address.

Over 700 gifts, from loose tulip bunches to gift baskets

Flowers are the bulk of it — over 300 arrangements, hand-tied and seasonal. Alongside them you can send plants, dried and preserved flowers, silk flowers, chocolates, perfumes, wine, champagne and cakes, and over 100 gift baskets that put several of those in one box. All of it is put together by a florist in the country and taken to the door; nothing is sent to you to forward on.

How the Dutch buy and give flowers

Bringing flowers to someone's home is routine courtesy here rather than a grand gesture, and much of what is given is bought loose by the bunch — one generous armful of a single flower instead of a mixed arrangement. The style follows: airy, informal hand-tied bunches with generous stem counts, seasonal and unfussy. The country grows a great deal of what it sells, in the Westland in South Holland, the Bollenstreek between Haarlem and Leiden and the greenhouse belt around Venlo, and traded through Royal FloraHolland at Aalsmeer. The tulip is the national flower. Glasshouses run all year, so supply barely dips; what changes is what is abundant, with outdoor tulips roughly February to May.

The busiest flower dates in the Dutch calendar

Mother's Day (Moederdag), the second Sunday of May, is the largest flower-gifting day of the year and runs to bouquets and flowering plants. Valentine's Day (Valentijnsdag), 14 February every year, belongs to red roses. Those two are the exception to the usual schedule: florists open for the big flower days, so your order can arrive even when the date falls on a Sunday. Order at least 48 hours ahead. Father's Day (Vaderdag), the third Sunday of June, is the quieter one, modest bouquets and plants. Employee's Day (Dag van de Medewerker, formerly Secretaressedag), the third Thursday of April, is a long-established office flower-giving day — someone went out of their way for you, and flowers on their desk that morning say it better than a message.

If the recipient isn't home, or isn't reachable

Someone mid-journey — at an airport, railway station or cruise terminal — is almost impossible to reach with a delivery. Send to their hotel, office or home address instead, timed for after they arrive. One more thing about absences: if nobody answers the door at a home address, the florist will typically call the recipient or arrange a redelivery, which is another reason the phone number is worth adding.

Sending from another country — what to know

Sending from abroad changes nothing at your end. You order online, and the arrangement is made and delivered locally, rather than travelling from where you are to where they are. The short answer: the order crosses the distance and the flowers never do. If you are sending to Amsterdam, we cover the city on its own — its districts, what a city address needs, and what reception desks there ask for.

Customer Questions

Flowers Delivery to Netherlands — FAQs

Can I get same-day flower delivery in the Netherlands?

Yes — order before 14:00 local time and your flowers can be delivered the same day. Orders placed after the cutoff are delivered on the next available day you choose at checkout.

Can flowers be delivered to a hotel?

Yes. Include the guest's full name and, if you can, their arrival date or booking reference, so reception can match the delivery to the right guest.

Can I send flowers to someone's workplace?

Yes — include the company name and, if you know it, the floor or department, and the delivery goes to reception. Workplace deliveries should arrive within office hours, so choose a day the recipient is in.

How do hospital deliveries work?

Acceptance depends on the hospital and ward — check before ordering; otherwise delivery goes to reception. Enter the hospital's own city and full address, not the recipient's home town, with the patient's full name and, where possible, the ward or room.

Can I ask for a particular delivery time?

You can request a preferred time slot, but exact times cannot be guaranteed — deliveries follow the local florist's routes and workload for the day. The delivery date you select at checkout is honoured; the calendar only offers available dates.

How much notice do funeral flowers need?

Wreaths and formal funeral pieces need 24–48 hours' notice. A rouwstuk, the shaped funeral arrangement built on a foam base, is the conventional form, usually in white and cream.
